What is the effect of changing the bias on the S128240D?

The data sheet for the LCD states that the display is designed for 1/12 bias, and the displayTech initialization code calls up this value.
What effect would be expected by setting the bias to another value (say 1/9)?

I'm asking this as I've set 1/9 bias and the display contrast looks good!
Also, this significantly decreases the Vlcd voltage required for good contrast, allowing the charge-pump to be used over the whole LCD operating temperature range.
So empirically things look good - but what is the down-side / what side-effects could occure?

I tried this, but after adjusting the contrast, I still don't get a full screen image. The VLCD still drops to 12V when a full screen image is being displayed.

I am using the standard wiring configuration. 6X booster, 2uF caps on everything.
