I can't figure out how to power this LCD. How and when do I wire capacitors to the Vx and CAPx pins? How do I know what voltage multiplication is needed? Is any of it needed if 12V is available?

Have you seen the schematics and sample code available on the DESIGN CENTER page at www.displaytech-us.com? Also, the data sheet for the controller IC (ST7565R-G) shows the settings for various multiplier/ boost circuits. You can bypass the boost circuitry and apply 9V directly to the Vlcd pin if you have it available.
